TOURS and SAFARIS
The compact city of Dubai with its good roads has several tour companies offering a variety of city tours with the itinerary varying in day and duration. Such tours cover all major landmarks and sights within a matter of hours. But an imaginative way of seeing Dubai is by taking the Creek tour by a traditional wooden dhow or cabin cruiser, complete with food and beverages on board.

Not only for the adventurous, the desert safaris of Dubai, a must for any visitor, are best organised as part of a group tour giving you a taste of hinterland Arabia. The vast, sandy enigma of the desert can be sampled in exciting half-day, full-day, or overnight safaris by major tour operators. Highlights of a safari includes dune driving with four-wheel drives and qualified instructors, wadi bashing which simply means exploring the wadis or dry river beds on four-wheel drives, sand-skiing, camel riding, visits to a local Bedouin village, and traditional Bedouin barbecues under a setting sun ranging from a quiet and romantic one to something lively, packed with music and belly dancing.

CAMEL RACING
The camel, symbol of Arabia, and part-and-parcel of Arabian tourism provides a visitor with one of the most memorable and spectacular events of racing which takes place on Thursdays and Fridays of the winter months. These exciting races produce a village fair like atmosphere.

HORSE RACING
The royalty popularised it and today horse racing has become the most popular of Dubai's spectator events attracting thousands of enthusiasts. The Nad Al Sheba track, the country's largest, holds the richest horse-race in the world, the Dubai World Cup, inaugurated in 1996. Weekly races are also organised during the winter.

BIRD-WATCHING TOURS
The Khor Dubai wildlife sanctuary, a large, shallow lagoon at the inland end of the creek has become a haven for migrating shore birds. With nearly 400 species observed in the emirate, Dubai has emerged as a Birdwatcher's Paradise. Custom-made bird-watching tours takes enthusiasts through the full range of landscapes including parks and golf links, mountains, deserts, and the creek.

WATERSPORTS
Diving, boating, windsurfing, and jet-skiing are popular water sports. All necessary equipments are available on hire with fully-qualified instructors providing the necessary tips and supervision. Facilities for water-skiing are readily available and arrangements with professional local operators can be made through most hotels. Jet skis are available for hire from trailers parked near Al Garhoud bridge. Deep-sea fishing is another popular sport for the daring.

NIGHTLIFE
Dubai by night has something for everyone. Most of the bars and pubs in all top hotels feature live music. Party goers and revellers can also dance to the latest beats in the city's many discotheques. Arabic nightclubs with Arabic singers and dancers are ideal for those choosing a more traditional kind of an entertainment.
